Summer is finally here, which means family vacations, which means long car trips. Fortunately, I’ve got a brand-new site for passing the time and curtailing boredom. PrintableBoardGames.net has 20 board games that are fun for the whole family, at home or on the go. No worries about losing pieces, either; a new board or new game pieces can just be reprinted and replaced.
I’m a big fan of the classic games of strategy for two people. That’s why I have one- and two-page boards devoted to standard games such as Chess, Reversi, Go, Rummy Cube, and Mancala. Fans of dominoes will also be pleased to see that I have sets with values that go through six, nine, or twelve. These games require nothing but a printer, paper, and a pair of scissors. Cut everything out and start playing! You can use your own game pieces, or you can cut out the ones provided. For small pieces (as with Go), you can use a hole-puncher to get them free!
Some of the boards require a few accessories for full gameplay. There are several dice games such as Backgammon, Snakes and Ladders, and Pachisi (which is a lot like the game Sorry!). You need a die or two to play these games. The boards are fully colored and, in the case of Snakes and Ladders, fully illustrated with cute designs. These boards can be laminated to be used again and again.
If you have a writing utensil and a notebook, you can play any of the new paper and pencil games. These include word guessing games like Safe Cracker, a colorful version called Master Code Cracker, and Quick on the Draw, which is a sketching game similar to Pictionary. These are the easiest for car trips, and can be played with two or more people.
All of the games at PrintableBoardGames.net are free to download and print as PDF files. You can download them individually, or save yourself some time and get the whole game collection for only $11. Just download, print, and hit the road!
