It’s been awhile since I’ve been on Tooth Fairy duty as a dad, so I’m especially grateful for the ideas sent in by users of my site, www.ToothFairyLetter.net. I’ve just added several new letters to the site, so there are now 30 to choose from in all, plus a new Tooth Fairy Poems category. And, as always, there are free coloring pages as well as tips for parents who would like to start tooth traditions or need help deciding how much to pay for those pearly whites.

Do you have a kid who’s scared at the thought of losing a tooth? There’s a new letter for that. How about a special note for the very first front tooth lost? Got it!. There are general Tooth Fairy letters as well as specific ones. All of the letters are formatted on full-color, custom Tooth Fairy stationery and digitally “signed” by the fairy herself. There’s a new letter for children who want to know what the fairy does with all those teeth, and even a funny note to kids who no longer believe in the tooth-toting creature.

The notes at ToothFairyLetter.net are easy to instantly download and print. They’re free as PDFs you can write upon, or opt for the editable DOC (Microsoft Word) version for $5. The coloring pages are free. Have fun!

Imagine my excitement when I heard that one of my printables sites was in the national spotlight! PrintablePaper.net was featured in a “freebies” segment on NBC’s Today Show on Feb. 29.

They had printed out a whole bunch of sheets of lined, graph, and music paper, plus a scoresheet to display among a bunch of other free stuff. It was part of the show’s Today’s Money feature with Elizabeth Mayhew. She even said, “This is one of my favorites.” Yay!

I’m excited to announce the winners of the first-ever FreePrintable.net Valentine’s Day coloring contest! Nathan and Alisse each won a $50 gift certificate for Amazon.com. Nathan’s entry was posted on the FreePrintable.net Facebook Wall by Cathryn, who works with students in a study hall class. (Love the bunnies, Nathan!) I love how printables fans of all ages had fun coloring designs from FreePrintableColoringPages.net and posting their pages. (I, personally, find coloring very relaxing. The fact that I have a daughter who turned 5 last week is just an excuse; I’d probably be coloring ponies regardless.)

Are you into QR codes? If you have a smartphone, I’m pretty sure you know what I mean: those little black-and-white squares that can be scanned to review more information about a person, project, company, or service.

I launched www.FreePrintableBusinessCards.net way back in 2005 (it’s one of my first printables sites), and recently I added a cool new feature: the ability to generate your own QR Code Business Cards – for free!

QR codes are essentially two-dimensional barcodes, and they’re incredibly handy. Not only can you give people a lot of information that wouldn’t fit on a traditional business card, you’ll look hip and cutting-edge while you’re at it!

To use the QR code maker, just choose a font, add contact information for the body of the business card, and then type in up to 350 characters of whatever info you want embedded in the code. Click to generate and then download and print your custom business card. Now, anyone with an iPhone, Droid, or other smartphone can use their phone’s scanning software to decode it.

And, of course, if you’re not ready to make the leap to QR codes, there are 1,081 other free printable business cards to choose from at FreePrintableBusinessCards.net.

All of the traditional business cards are in DOC (Microsoft Word) format and free to print with the site URL discreetly embedded near the bottom of the card. If you’d like to remove that, pay just $1.99 for the premium version.

In August, I spent a day as an extra on one of my favorite TV shows, Leverage, which is on the TNT network. On the day “my” episode was set to air, my family huddled around the TV screen to see my big debut and . . . nothing. The episode turned out to be a two-parter, and my part was nowhere to be seen. So, this week, we gathered ’round again and this time we were rewarded. There I was: “Man Walking on Sidewak.” I guess you could say it all seems like a blur, because it is.

I had fun, though. I moved to Portland a little over a year ago, and it’s so cool to see more and more productions being filmed here. Grimm even shot an episode right on my street (they didn’t bother to warn the residents first, but I’ll forgive them because I like the show). And, of course, there’s the cult hit Portlandia.

Don’t worry. I won’t be heading off to Hollywood to seek my fame and fortune. I’m happy here in Portland, making printables.
